Junior Rodeo Club

The Junior Rodeo Club was developed to embrace and grow participation in rodeo events for the youth of the Gunnison Valley. Both local and statewide junior rodeo opportunities are available.

Horse ownership is not required to participate in the Junior Rodeo Club. Some junior rodeo events (rough stock riding) do not require horse ownership. For most events that do require horses, Lost Miner Ranch and Equestrian Center has horses available to lease for rodeo events by members of the Junior Rodeo Club. To lease a horse for a rodeo event participants must be actively participating in the Junior Rodeo Club and/or taking lessons with one of our instructors. Members may also participate in the Junior Rodeo Club with their own horse or a leased horse.

Junior Rodeo Club members will have opportunities to train in:

Barrel Racing

Pole Bending

Flag Racing

Goat Tying

Mutton Bustin'

Dummy Roping

Instructors and volunteers are also able to assist in training for breakaway roping (must provide your own horse) and calf and steer riding. These events require additional stock and equipment and will only be offered if there is enough interest.

2021 Youth Rodeo Event Opportunities in Colorado

Our primary focus for the first year of the Junior Rodeo Club is developing a solid foundation in rodeo events and participating in local Gunnison rodeos. Travel to Montrose, Delta, and Grand Junction for rodeos is an option for those with a higher level of commitment.
